Subject:Text-To-Speech - installing TTS Languages in production environment (other than the default US English)
Category:Installation, MailCall, Text-To-Speech, Unified MailCall

PhoneSoft MailCall and Unified MailCall automatically install DECtalk US English Text To Speech (TTS). If you have purchased other languages or additional languages, you will need to install them AFTER installing the normal MailCall or Unified MailCall product.

In order to hear your email read to you in different languages, you must download and install the purchased language files into your PhoneSoft directory as described below.

1. Download the language(s) that you purchased from the PhoneSoft website. These files can be downloaded today using any browser from ftp://www.phonesoft.com/browse/phonesoft/EMEA. Each of these is a complete installation file which will add that language to the standard MailCall or Unified MailCall installation. These four languages can be found in that directory today:

DECtalk_GR_TTS.exe (DECtalk German)
DECtalk_LA_TTS.exe (DECtalk Latin American Spanish)
DECtalk_SP_TTS.exe (DECtalk Castillian Spanish)
DECtalk_UK_TTS.exe (DECtalk United Kingdom / British English)

2. Run each of the downloaded language(s) EXE file(s). During the installation, you will be asked to specify where to install the language files. Make sure you specify the same directory that MailCall or Unified MailCall is installed into. The default is C:\PhoneSoft\MailCall. These language files MUST be installed into your MailCall subdirectory under your PhoneSoft directory, wherever that is on your system.

3. These EXE files will automatically install the required language DLL's into the Windows System directory and create a MailCall.INI file in the selected install directory.

4. Note that the installed MailCall.INI file MUST be in the same directory as MailCall.EXE or UMailCall.EXE.

5. You are now almost done. Multilingual TTS is now fully installed. You can select between the different installed languages by pressing (2) during playback of any TTS. The last step is for you to customize your system to specify which language will be played by default, and which other languages should be selected by pressing which keys. This is controlled by the MailCall.INI file.

6. Edit the MailCall.INI file (using any text editor) and specify the order that you wish the TTS languages to be played.

Sample MailCall.INI file is shown below:

[TTS Languages]
Language_1=ENGLISH, UK
Description_1=The Queen's English
Language_2=ENGLISH, US
Description_2=American English
Language_3=SPANISH
Description_3=Spanish
Language_4=LATIN AMERICAN
Description_4=Latin American Spanish
Language_5=GERMAN
Description_5=Deutch

Note that the first language specified in the file will be the default TTS language used at the beginning of each call. The menu options presented to the caller when he presses (2) to change languages will match whatever order you have customized in this INI file.

The "Language_x" lines in the file define the language to be selected by pressing the corresponding menu number. The "Description_x" lines in the file can be any text you wish, and are used as the language description which is
played in the TTS selection menu.
