PhoneSoft FAQ
Subject:Outbound dialling - can we click a contact document to originate an outgoing call?
Category:MailCall, Unified MailCall, FastDial

SummaryYes! Our FastDial feature enables outgoing telephone calls to be initiated by selecting a field in a document (Notes Directory, Excel spreadsheet, etc.)

Technical descriptionClicking the FastDial button sends an instruction to the PhoneServer software instructing the Dialogic board to dial the caller's extension. The extension rings and when the caller says "PhoneSoft" the Dialogic board recognizes this utterance and puts the caller on hold.
PhoneServer dials the target number and hangs up. The caller then has control of the call and waits for the target phone to answer.

Applications are numerousFor example, we can provide FastDial within the Lotus Notes Directory. Rather than selecting and mouse clicking to open a record in order to read a telephone number the record can be selected and the FastDial button at the top of the View can be clicked. The FastDial button could default to the office phone number. Should a mobile or home telephone number be required then the record can be opened and the relevant FastDial button clicked.

What about Excel spreadsheets?FastDial can even be applied in a non-Notes situation. Imagine an Excel spreadsheet which contains a list of contact telephone numbers. Selecting a cell containing a telephone number and clicking FastDial will dial the number. An Excel macro puts the FastDial icon on every spreadsheet and would dial the
"contents" of any selected field once FastDial is clicked.

Do I need a large system? An unlimited number of users/server are supported. The PhoneSoft system is only actually in use between the moment the caller's telephone is rung to the moment the target phone rings. This should be under 5 seconds per call. In this way a small Phonesoft FastDial system could serve a large number of users.

How do I buy FastDial?FastDial can be purchased separately. It is also an integral feature of both MailCall and Unified MailCall.
